Why does Tots Tea Rooms need volunteers?
The main reason for this is that many parents have very little or no mental health support during pregnancy and after birth. Many parents reported experiencing loneliness, isolation and depression during pregnancy and parenthood. We have recently launched the 'Talking Tea Rooms' project, which has already helped lots of local Mams, Dads, Grandparents & carers and we have lots of happy babies and toddlers that visit regularly. Tots Tea Rooms is a social enterprise cafe situated in Wallsend, We are a play cafe firstly with lots of toys, activities and a ball pool to keep the tots busy and give parents a well earned break. and we offer support to parents & carers and a friendly face and listening ear when they need one. What is 'Talking Tea Rooms'? Our recently launched 'Talking Tea Rooms' Project provides a range of services for parents, babies and people with short-term mental health problems during parenthood and/or learning disabilities Our staff and volunteers go above and beyond to help no matter how complex the situation. Sometimes, we all just need someone to listen. We arrange meet ups regularly so parents can talk with like minded people, we have seen many friendships form and have a buddy programme, for anyone that needs a bit of extra support. We have an active Facebook group where parents can ask for advice, guidance or have a rant on a bad day. We offer support and kind words and we are a shoulder to cry on if need be. We are a group of parents that are simply there to support each other. We have worked effectively with families & babies from a range of backgrounds and have always maintained a calm and patient composure when dealing with challenging situations. We have a good imagination and can think of and implement creative activities to engage children and support their development at any age. We have a passion for supporting people with mental health illnesses – Throughout our career we are excellent at working with adults and children with wide ranging mental health illnesses, enabling them to progress towards meaningful employment. This has involved building a vast network of support services to ensure the correct support is given and received. What is a social enterprise? Social enterprises are businesses that are changing the world for the better. Like traditional businesses they aim to make a profit and we want to earn enough to keep us ticking over but it’s what they do with their profits that sets them apart – reinvesting or donating them to create positive social change. Social enterprises are in our communities and on our high streets – from coffee shops and cinemas, to pubs and leisure centres, banks and bus companies. By selling goods and services in the open market, social enterprises create employment and reinvest their profits back into their business or the local community. This allows them to tackle social problems, improve people’s life chances, provide training and employment opportunities for those furthest from the market, support communities and help the environment. Where do funds raised go? Funds raised go towards implementation of a prenatal & postnatal support service set within our colourful , vibrant Tea Room. Funds raised help the group with equipment and making Tots Tea Rooms an interactive educational place for tots, it will allow us to purchase more sensory equipment and provide community activities and groups, general running costs and extend the number of days, evenings & possibly weekends that the service would be available. How can I help Tots Tea Rooms? You can contact us as we have lots of volunteering opportunities available in a wide range of skills. Do you have a skill or service you think could benefit us? Perhaps you have a spare hour or so each week? or a fundraising idea? Get in touch and we can discuss what roles we have that would suit you. Our FABULOUS volunteer Carli is hosting a Messy Play Party this week for the Mammies and tots to raise funds for our Talking Tea Rooms Project. Keep an Eye out for our photos. You could have your very own messy play party for groups of 8 or more!
