Tots Tea Rooms is a social enterprise cafe situated in Wallsend, We are a play cafe firstly with lots of toys, activities and a ball pool to keep the tots busy and give parents a well earned break. and we offer support to parents & carers. We have recently launched the 'Talking Tea Rooms' project, which has already helped lots of local Mams, Dads, Grandparents & carers and we have lots of happy babies and toddlers that visit regularly.
We welcome the public and you can enjoy some coffee from the local company 'Tynemouth Coffee' and you can sample our delicious cakes and tasties that we have on offer. Tots has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and the tea room is bright and fun for the kids. Many of our parents describe it as a safe haven. everyone is welcome, there's no judgement here only support. We have fabulous classes ran by our volunteers such as messy play, sensory play, musical tots and more! We also hold private functions and birthdays so you can enjoy using our friendly space and variety of toys and activities to keep your little ones entertained. (we also clean up the mess)
Tots Tea Rooms was initially established in 2015 by a group of parents - to work with people who experience low level mental health and/or learning disabilities, to enable them to live and work within their own local community and to support them towards achieving not only a life within their community - but a quality of life. To this day, we continue to offer support and guidance whether your Pre-natal, Postnatal, Trying to conceive or whether you have tots running about and causing mischief.
We try to achieve this through a variety of activities which are always evolving and are now set in the context of an informal welcoming Tea Room - set up to cater for babies and toddlers and their parents. Our recently launched 'Talking Tea Rooms' Project. has an active Facebook group where parents can ask for advice, guidance or have a rant on a bad day. We offer support and kind words and we are a shoulder to cry on if need be. We are a group of parents that are simply there to support each other. Our staff and volunteers go above and beyond to help no matter how complex the situation. Sometimes, we all just need someone to listen. We arrange meet ups regularly so parents can talk with like minded people, we have seen many friendships form and have a buddy programme, for anyone that needs a bit of extra support.
We have worked effectively with families & babies from a range of backgrounds and have always maintained a calm and patient composure when dealing with challenging situations. We have a good imagination and can think of and implement creative activities to engage children and support their development at any age. We have a passion for supporting people with mental health illnesses – Throughout our career we are excellent at working with adults and children with wide ranging mental health illnesses, enabling them to progress towards meaningful employment. This has involved building a vast network of support services to ensure the correct support is given and received.
Tots Tea Rooms provides a range of services for parents, babies and people with short-term mental health problems and/or learning disabilities. The primary reason for this is that many parents have very little or no mental health support during pregnancy and after birth. Many parents reported experiencing loneliness, isolation and depression during pregnancy and parenthood.
